Norwich, The Factory
The Factory is a short walk from Norwich main line railway station. It is close to the River Wensum and the riverside regeneration of restaurants, cinemas, wine bars, shops, supermarkets, swimming pool and health club.
The scheme is set within a unique mid century Modernist building near the riverside. The new luxury loft apartments combine crisp design with wonderful space and light.
The proposed riverside regeneration behind The Factory has recently received planning permission. The regeneration includes the creation of a riverside park, new public squares and a riverside walk leading directly from The Factory. The creation of modern eco-friendly apartments and the sympathetic conversion of historic industrial buildings will further revitalise the riverside area of Norwich.
The Factory was built to a cutting edge Modernist design in 1953 for Laurence, Scott & Electromotors Ltd as a statement of LSE’s engineering innovation.
The company was one of the UK's oldest and most important electrical machinery manufacturers.
Much of The Factory was the site of LSE’s technical drawing section and it was here that its advanced motors were designed.
These have featured around the world in everything from the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet and The Titanic, to the excavating machines for the Channel Tunnel.
The Factory was designed with the maximum number of windows and long skylights ¬ enabling designers to work in as much natural light as possible.
